What happens in a tarot reading?

Part One - Before the Reading

Firstly, you are in control. ALWAYS. What you share with me, you share freely in conversation. Tarot is a form of talk therapy. It's a private conversation between you and I, which on my behalf, stays private (hence the professional part, of professional tarot reader).

Its simply a conversation - a bit like when you go out with friends and the conversation goes off on many tangents, that's kind of a bit like tarot. Even down to the laughing and asking, what was I talking about again? Come with questions, or at least an area of your life that feels 'messy' and I will skillfully unwrap what I feel is going on, so that we have a definitive question to use with the cards.

Words are energy. They carry weight, emotion and meaning. I allow you the space to talk through what is happening and as I listen, I will shuffle a deck of cards.

Part Two - The Reading

This is always the interesting part.
Simply put, depending on the reading you have booked, I will pull cards for a specific spread.
Once laid, I will spend a few moments 'reading' the cards.

Its a bit like reading a room at a party.

I will look for the noise, the one that's lurking in a corner unseen, the chatterbox that is talking about everything but keeping something under wraps, I will look for the card that is dying to be heard, but can't above the noise.
I look at colours - are they happy or sad? (With particular decks it's obvious) I look at numbers too – numerology is a fantastic tool, which is under utilised sometimes in Tarot. And just like people at a party, some cards will have beef with each other too! Especially the court cards (the ones with the people on) you can literally see court cards giving each other side eye – I'm not joking!

And each card is a mirror image of one of your personality traits in direct reference to the question that you are posing.

I said it was interesting, didn't I!

So part of your personality maybe blocked, or defensive, or tries too hard in a people pleasing manner (usually as a result of something that happened in childhood). An aggressive or argumentative side might show itself in order to stop a repeating trauma from reoccurring – all of these cards identify your role in the question being asked and the domino effect it's having elsewhere in your life.

Tarot is literally psychology.

Part Three - Now what?

That's the big question!

You know when you go on holiday, and for the time that you're away, you decide that when you get back, things are going to be different. You are going to be different. You're going to try harder or go to the gym or change your life in some dramatic way. Basically you've had time away from your environment to think and make a plan, but without understanding the reasons behind the changes you want to implement.

This is a bit like a holiday reset – but, and here's the kicker, nothing changes unless you decide to implement that change.

How this is different is that, the cards will reveal the parts of you that have something to say, which you may or may not be aware of depending on how self-aware you are. The cards may also reveal parts of stories belonging to other people that you also may not be privy to.

I need to add in here that no spiritual eavesdropping occurs. I don't pry into other people's energy, but if their energy is a factor in your reading and I am certain that I am not crossing a boundary (that's a judgment call) then it will come up. Trust me.

The cards will lay out a story, and I will do my very best to explain that story to you. It's your job to decide if you are going to stick with your current story or stick a plot twist in the middle and ultimately change the direction of the ending.

As ever, the choice is yours.

It's your story, I'm just the narrator.
